California culture wars

(Thursday, April 10, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- One valley filled up with multimillionaires and their precious acres of wine grapes. The next valley filled up with bohemians and hippies and their wild flocks of chickens. And so we pause to ask, “What happened next!”

This Saturday at 9AM Pacific, the Food Chain with Michael Olson hosts author Alan Deutschman for a conversation about the culture wars between the Napa and Sonoma valleys.

(Listen here: http://www.metrofarm.com/index.asp?cat=40088 )

Topics will include a look at the different cultures engendered by Napa’s extremely rich community of grape farmers and Sonoma’s “laid back” community of corporate refugees; the confrontation of cultures between these two valleys; and the problem metropolitan areas throughout the nation experience when they try to develop their neighboring agricultural lands.

Listeners are invited to call the live program on KFRM, KGOE, KMPH, KOMY, or KSCO with questions and comments at 800-624-2665.
