Mexican government investigates possible transgenic corn contamination in Puebla

(Dec. 11, 2001 – CropChoice news) – The Mexican government is evaluating samples of corn from Puebla and Qaxaca states for the presence of genetically modified organisms; Mexico has banned commercial cultivation of transgenic corn since 1998. This comes a week after the Mexican Congress unanimously resolved that President Vicente Fox stop the importation of all genetically modified corn out of concern that it might harm the integrity of Mexico’s native corn.
