Does Teflon illustrate need for Precautionary Principle?

(Sunday, April 27, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- Be it flame retardents or DDT, American society has repeatedly fallen in love with new technologies without critically assessing their safety.

Edward Groth, a senior scientist with Consumers Union told USA Today: "It's hard for people to get their minds around the fact that there's something like 70,000 chemicals in commercial production and about 10 percent of them (in quantities of) more than 1 million pounds a year. And the sad fact is we don't know anything about the toxicity or environmental effects of most of them."
