Japanese discover more StarLink

(February 1, 2001 -- Cropchoice news) -- A consumer group in Japan reportedly discovered StarLink in yet another Japanese food product.

Genetic ID performed the test on corn that Japan may or may not have imported prior to the testing protocol that the United States and Japan had established. Two samples came up positive in Japan for StarLink after tests in the United States had registered negative.

Officials from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture will be in the United States Feb. 4-14 to observe testing here to see where differences might lie. Those differences may explain why the positive samples showed up on "clean" corn.
