Thai Senate panel urges lifting of GMO planting ban

(March 18, 2002 – CropChoice news) – An agricultural panel in Thailand’s Senate last week urged that the government lift its ban on field trials of transgenic plants. During a panel discussion on biotechnology, panel members – those opposed to the technology were excluded from the discussion – argued that the ban interferes with farmers’ rights to increase their crop yields.

A draft labeling law holds that foods with more than 5 percent of their ingredients containing genetically modified material should be labeled as such.
