China may extend biotech certification deadline

(Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- China may extend its deadline for certification of genetically modified crops to avoid disrupting U.S. soybean imports, valued at $1 billion per year.

Monsanto said it will not be able to meet the Dec. 20 deadline for certifying that its Roundup Ready soybeans won't harm the environment or cause agronomic problems.
