Europeans want meat from livestock raised without GMO feed

(Oct. 8, 2001 -- CropChoice news) -- Jochen Koester, the president of Cert ID ( www.cert-id.com) told Reuters that European demand for non-transgenic livestock feed has increased from the 700,000 tons in 2000 to 4 million tons this year.

Most of the feed has come from Brazil, which bans the cultivation of transgenic crops.

Koester told Reuters the demand could increase further: "If the demand would be there, I think we can easily crank up the certified amount from Brazil to 10 million tons and more annually."
